Nikki Haley has said she will not debate anyone but Trump or Biden. Trump, well he has no plans to attend any debate. This is a problem for Ron DeSantis. It seems he likes to debate. This makes sense after he dominated Charlie Crist in debates for the 2022 Florida Governors Race.
Debates in America these days aren’t what they used to be. Who wins and loses is not like it was 40 years ago when Reagen defeated Mondale. In many ways, it is a joke. On one side typically Democrats are given the questions in advance and unfair questions are asked of the other side. Put this together with hostile moderator and it is a clown show. Then a New York Times fact check is done showing that the Republican (or the candidate less favored by them) lied about everything. It is a wonder that Trump doesn’t want to debate. It’s almost like in the eyes of the media Trump can’t win. Debates have a history that goes back probably as long as politics. It hasn’t always been pretty, Socrates was forced to drink hemlock for corrupting the youth in Democratic Athens. Trump at this point might prefer Hemlock to these debates.
The Next Debate
Somehow DeSantis wants to debate because still thinks he can win. He considers himself a master at debating. He even did a bonus debate with Gavin Newsome. But he now has a problem. that there seems to be nobody to debate. Chris Christie, Vivek Ramaswamy, and even Asa Hutchinson have dropped out of the race. Was he going to debate Ryan Brinkley? Haley and Trump want no part of it.
Now DeSantis’s best and possibly only solution is to debate himself. What could go wrong? Nothing because nobody will watch it. As a result, he managed to lose the Debate with himself. Now, he suspended his debate plans and dropped out of the race. He will now return to being Governor of Florida.
